Alexandra Banti is a French artist, photographer living in Paris.
Her research and artistic production about the courtesan archetype has been a very important theme in her artistic process. Her purpose was to show, reveal, the hidden part of the courtesan, her fragility but also her strength confronted to a society where she had a paradoxal status.
Now, her work turns towards the representation of the sacred feminity. We are living the material, vain world of the courtesans to a return to the sources, to the wild hidden nature, magic, believes and ancestral knowledges, to rituals and elevation.
Another part of her artistic process is composed by drawing and painting around the same subject of the sacred feminity but completing her photographs. Her characters without identity easily represent entities, divinities when her models will represent (for the moment) the spiritual in human.
She pulls her ideas from the books she reads and her personal experiences that she embodies through dancing and transcribes by image.
She is part of the Amaranthes collective, formed by photographers, illustrator and writer : collectif-amaranthes.com
