«Wild is the wind» es una canción escrita por el compositor ucraniano de bandas sonoras Dimitri Tiomkin. La canción fue grabada originalmente por Johnny Mathis para la película homónima de 1957 dirigida por George Cukor e interpretada en sus papeles principales por Anna Magnani, Anthony Quinn, Anthony Franciosa. Lo mejor de la película es la música de Dimitri Tiomkin especialmente la canción «Wild is in the wind» que abre la película, interpretada por Johnny Mathis.
En 1959, la cantante y compositora Nina Simone graba una versión muy particular. Frente a los 2 minutos y medio de la versión original, Nina Simone se atreve a mantener la tensión hasta los 7 minutos.
En 1976, otro camaleón de la música, David Bowie, graba una versión de Wild is the wind para su álbum Station to Station. David Bowie era un admirador del estilo de Nina Simone, y después de conocerla en Los Angeles se inspiró en ella para grabar su propia versión acompañado de una guitarra eléctrica con efectos de ecualización acústica, bajo y batería.
